Myeloma is an incurable blood cancer affecting more than 22,000 Australians. It often presents with multiple bone lesions and can be difficult to diagnose.
According to the South Australian Cancer Registry, an estimated 203 South Australians were diagnosed with myeloma in 2024, with 100 deaths recorded over the same period.
There are currently no screening programs or proven preventive measures for myeloma, underscoring the importance of accessible, high quality patient support.
A re-elected Malinauskas Labor Government will invest $400,000 to expand nursing services and improve access to specialised support for South Australians living with myeloma.
Myeloma Australia’s existing specialist nurse program in South Australia, already recognised as a nation-leading model, will receive this additional funding to strengthen services, particularly for people in regional and remote communities.
Labor's investment will enable Myeloma Australia to provide safe, consistent support to under-served communities, ensuring every South Australian living with myeloma, and their families, can access specialist care regardless of where they live.
