A re-elected Malinauskas Labor Government has a comprehensive plan to build the construction workforce needed to deliver the 13,500 homes required to capitalise on the incredible economic opportunity before South Australia. The expansion of naval shipbuilding, the commencement of AUKUS, major infrastructure investment and a booming minerals sector mean our state is entering an unprecedented period of opportunity.
By 2031, South Australia will reach a population of two million, and every one of these people will need a place to call home. Our housing aspirations are not possible without skilled South Australians. We need more carpenters, plumbers, project managers and engineers. We must create every opportunity for young people, and for those looking to reskill and upskill, to enter the construction industry.
Labor’s $29 million Housing Skills package will create 1,000 new pathways for South Australians to enter the construction workforce through scholarships, apprenticeships and industry partnerships.
This is in addition to our plan to further strengthen the construction skills sector, building on proven initiatives and partnering with industry by establishing three new technical colleges at Gawler, Marden and Murray Bridge, and delivering a new TAFE Trades Workshop in Mount Barker.
