A re-elected Malinauskas Labor Government will make sweeping changes to State Government-backed lender HomeStart to make it easier for South Australians to buy their own homes.

Labor will make it easier for first home buyers to enter the market with new HomeStart options through expanded housing finance, part of a comprehensive suite of measures a re-elected Malinauskas Labor Government will pursue to ensure future generations of South Australians can realise the dream of owning their own home.

If re-elected, the Malinauskas Labor Government will support HomeStart extending eligibility for its popular 2 per cent deposit Graduate Loan to include police officers, paid firefighters and all Technical College graduates, helping more South Australian essential workers and graduates achieve home ownership and giving more hard-working South Australians the opportunity to train, live, work and build their future in our state.

Labor will make it easier for first home buyers to enter the market by:
  • extending the income threshold for the Advantage Loan and Starter Loan customers to $110,000
  • broadening HomeStart’s shared equity loan scheme to multi-storey apartment purchases
  • creating a one-stop online shop for HomeStart and HomeSeeker customers looking for assistance to buy their first home
  • extending the HomeStart Graduate Loan to include firefighters, police and all Technical College graduates
