A re-elected Malinauskas Labor Government will fund the purchase of a new site for a bigger Ronald McDonald House and boost the Patient Assistance Transport Scheme to support the expansion of accommodation for regional families receiving treatment in Adelaide.

A re-elected Malinauskas Labor Government will provide $8 million to help Ronald McDonald House secure land to build a bigger accommodation service to support thousands more regional families with sick children receiving treatment in Adelaide.

Ronald McDonald House currently supports almost 350 families each year, and its new purpose-built facility near the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital will triple capacity, delivering vital support close to care.

A Malinauskas Labor Government will also provide significantly more financial support for thousands of regional South Australians who have to travel long distances for specialist healthcare, including introducing the most generous accommodation subsidy in the nation.

If re-elected, the Government will invest $16 million over four years to significantly expand the Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS), nearly tripling an existing accommodation subsidy and broadening eligibility for a fuel subsidy to help even more regional South Australians with out-of-pocket transport and accommodation costs when travelling for specialist healthcare not available locally.

Labor's plan to provide more support for regional patients:
  • Boost the Patience Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS) Accommodation Subsidy from $44 to $110
  • Expanded eligibility to the PATS fuel subsidy
  • Unlock development of a $60 million Cancer Council SA northern accommodation lodge
  • $8 million to secure land for a bigger Ronald McDonald House
