Hon. Leon Bignell

Leon Bignell MP has been a fierce advocate for his area for over 18 years.

During that time he’s locked in the agricultural lands of the McLaren Vale region with legislation that stops urban sprawl.

He fought hard to get the funding to duplicate the Liberal Party’s ridiculous one-way Southern Expressway and for the extension of the rail line to Seaford.

Leon has built a reputation of always helping individuals, schools, businesses, community groups and sports clubs.

That was never more evident than during the deadly Kangaroo Island bushfires in 2019 - 20 when Leon rolled up his sleeves and worked side by side with islanders to help them during the fires and has been with them ever since.

From 2013 - 2018 Leon was SA Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries, Forests, Tourism, Sport, Recreation and Racing.

Prior to entering parliament in 2006 he was a journalist for 20 years including stints with the ABC, Channel 7, Channel 10, News Ltd and two years working in Switzerland as a foreign correspondent.

He has a wealth of knowledge at the local, state, National and international level.
