David Leach

David Leach is a dedicated community leader and the current Mayor of Mount Barker. Before becoming Mayor, David served as a councillor on the Mount Barker District Council, where he championed initiatives to improve local amenities and strengthen community resilience. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding Mount Barker through population growth while maintaining the region’s unique character and natural beauty.

David has overseen major projects such as the development of the new Aquatic and Leisure Centre and advocated for critical road upgrades like the Heysen Boulevard connector to support safe and efficient transport.

As Labor’s candidate for Kavel, David brings a vision focused on fairness, opportunity, and regional development. He is passionate about ensuring that essential services—health, education, and transport—keep pace with growth, and that local communities have the resources they need to thrive.
