Premier Peter Malinauskas has announced that long-time local and highly respected community leader Jenni Mitton will be our candidate for the state seat of Mawson at next year's State Election. Raised on the Fleurieu Peninsula and now living at Maslin Beach with her family, Jenni has spent decades giving back to her community. She has volunteered extensively with local organisations, supported major community events including the Harvest Festival McLaren Vale, Willunga Farmers Market and the McLaren Vale Christmas Parade, and served on a number of local school governing councils. If elected, Jenni will be a strong local voice and an important part of the Labor team delivering for Mawson.

BREAKING: South Australia's unemployment rate has dropped to 4.0%, down 0.3 percentage points. Employment has surged to a new all-time high, with 992,000 South Australians now employed. We now have the second-lowest unemployment rate in Australia -- a major vote of confidence in our state's direction.

STATEMENT FROM PREMIER Peter Malinauskas: After two decades of service to South Australia, our Parliament and his local community, Leon Bignell MP has announced he will not be recontesting the next State Election. Leon has been a tireless advocate for his constituents and our entire state. From strengthening regional communities to championing tourism, major events and primary industries, he has consistently brought passion and an unwavering commitment to delivering lasting outcomes for South Australia. His service to the Labor Party has been just as remarkable. Against every prediction, Leon held Mawson for Labor at the "unwinnable" 2014 election. In 2018, he again defied expectations after a significant redistribution turned Mawson into a notional Liberal seat, yet he retained it once more. And at the last election, he didn't just hold Mawson, he strengthened Labor's position with a significantly increased margin. It is an extraordinary record of electoral resilience and deep community support. I want to sincerely thank Leon for his remarkable service, his dedication, and his many contributions to public life. I wish him every success in the next chapter ahead.
