Biography

Grace grew up in Adelaide as the youngest child of a large migrant Italian family.
Grace went to Flinders University where she studied public policy and government. Grace's first job was at the University of South Australia helping young women to get in to University.
In the 1990s she worked for the then Premier of Queensland, Wayne Goss, and also for Brisbane Water. When she returned to Adelaide she worked for then Opposition Leader Mike Rann and until recently was Chief of Staff to Minister for Families and Communities Jay Weatherill.
Grace Portolesi is married with a young family and lives in Tranmere where members of her family have lived for over 30 years.

Electorate Profile - Hartley

John Anderson Hartley (1844-1896) was the first chief executive of the system of compulsory education established for the Province in 1875. For two decades he shaped the course of the public education system in South Australia and contributed textbooks, a children's magazine and regulations for education staff in a constant endeavour to improve standards.

Area:approx. 14.3km2

Location: To the east of Adelaide some 5 km from the CBD, bounded by the River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri in the north-west, it includes mostly residential suburbs.

History: The district was created at the 1976 redistribution of electoral boundaries. Minor changes were made to the boundaries at the 2003 redistribution.
