Biography
Patrick was first elected as the Member for Elder in 1997. He held several shadow portfolios and has been a senior minister in the Rann Government since 2002. Patrick is currently the Minister for Infrastructure, Energy and Transport. Patrick is a devoted Port Adelaide supporter and his hobbies include fishing, fine wine and cooking. His greatest love is his family. Patrick and his wife Tania have a daughter, Sadie, and he now enjoys giving his Parliamentary colleagues regular - if not daily - updates of her progress.
Electorate Profile - Elder
Thomas Elder (1818-1897) arrived in Adelaide in 1854 and formed a partnershiop with R. Barr Smith, E. Stirling and J. Taylor making their fortunes by financing the development of the Wallaroo and Moonta mines. Later the Elder, Smith and Co. became one of the worlds largest woolsellers. Elder financially assisted a number of explorers, was a member of the Legislative Council, donated £100 000 to the University of Adelaide, and contributed generously to the SA Art Gallery, Zoological Gardens and countless charities. The Elder Conservatorium is named in his memory. Area:approx. 16.4km2 Location: To the south-west of Adelaide and incorporates the Morphettville Racecourse, and suburbs with a mixed residential/light industry base. History: The district was created at the 1991 redistribution of boundaries.
