Party Platform
Labor has the opportunity to build on the achievements
of our first four years in Government.
This Platform will underpin Labor’s second term and
complements Labor’s Strategic Plan, Creating
Opportunity.
Labor continues to
stand for a strong, healthy and educated community enjoying creative
opportunities where hard work and innovation are rewarded.
We are committed
to the core principle of ecologically sustainable development to safeguard our
environment and your future.
And our economy
must continue to be well placed to meet the challenges of the international
economic climate.
The list of first
term achievements is long, but there is more to be done.
Four years ago we
pledged to govern in the interests of all South Australians and we gave an
enduring commitment to fairness and equity in public policy.
We promised a
Government that would provide leadership and security. A Government that would
consult and a Government that would be reformist with shared values and
priorities.
We have delivered
on those commitments, and
South Australia is
today reclaiming its pride and place as
Australia’s innovative State.
We provide world
class public health care and we now have better schools with more teachers and
smaller class sizes.
Our economy is strong and growing. More
than 50,000 jobs have been created since we came to office and unemployment has
fallen to its lowest levels since 1978. KPMG declared
Adelaide the most
competitive city in which to do business in
Australia and the Asia Pacific. We
won back our AAA rating and tax cuts will return $1.5 billion to taxpayers by
2010/2011.
It doesn’t matter
whether it’s sport, the Arts, wine and fresh food production or science and
innovation, we are punching well above our weight. Once again
South Australia is a great place to live,
work, learn, invest and do business.
Labor has been
listening to all South Australians about what is important for them.
South Australians
want a secure and fair community. They want a robust economy that doesn’t
compromise the environment in order to provide prosperity and job
opportunities. They want quality education for their children and confidence in
their health system.
Through our policies,
South Australia’s Strategic Plan and this
Platform for Government, Labor will deliver a program of responsible reform and
prosperity for our future.
